Be. Believe. Become
I have recently been on a journey of becoming a life coach. I am currently a Dental Hygienist of 30 years and have found this career to be greatly rewarding. For those who are closest to me know that as I am getting older, my physical body is, as I define, generally experiencing the wearing out phase of life. I say this with the utmost respect I have for my body, it has served me well but my hands are tired. As I gradually do less Dental Hygiene over the up coming years, Life Coaching Certification has become an interest and an endeavor for me. What I hope to continue is having deep, meaningful, relevant conversations that lead to honesty, vulnerability and a deeper sense of knowing oneself. To help myself and others grow and learn in life as we lock arms and become the best version of ourselves. Discussing and strategizing ways to overcome obstacles that are getting in the way of experiencing change. Leaving old habits and patterns behind, letting go of what was and reaching towards what will be are part of these beautiful conversations.
Somewhere in the middle of the old and new way of thinking and believing, one can become stuck and this is where life coaching can help.
What I have come to know, believe and understand about change and transformation while in training are these three things:
Be.
Be yourself.
You and I are created in the image of God. Uniquely created with creativity, with morality, and the ability to reason. You and I are fearfully and wonderfully made on purpose, for a purpose and that purpose is for connection. Connecting with our Creator. Walking faithfully with him, step by step. It is here that we are fully known, fully loved and fully seen. As we do this we show up in our life not seeking from others what only God can give. We learn our true identity found in Him. As we learn and grow in Him, we journey along this road of being able to connect with others in wholeness, not needing fulfillment from them but rather being already filled so that together we can pour out from this beautiful creation that God calls YOU.
Believe.
Believe in the One who was sent from above. Believing is critical for change and growth. We, in and of ourselves are born into a physical body, made in our mother’s womb, given a soul, body and spirit. Born into a world that has experienced both good and evil. Born into a body that also experiences both good and evil desires and lastly an enemy of our soul who wishes that death and evil will overtake us. This is the state we are born naturally into. But God who is rich in mercy and love has sent His Son, the Christ to take away the sin of the world and conquered death. Evident since the beginning of creation, we all experience a natural bent for going our own way. The thinking that we can believe in our good works, our good deeds, believing in ourselves to meet a Holy standard of living, found in the Ten Commandments, is a belief rooted in pride. Scripture also states if we are guilty of one part, we are guilty of the whole. Meaning, we all fall short of the glory of God, there is no one who can keep the whole law and stay morally pure. This Christ came to live among us to meet this standard that we could never fully meet. He came to save the world through him. Believing in him, in his life, death and resurrection we are now made new. Born from above. Seated with him in the heavenly places, that we may become the righteousness of God. Made pure through him and given power to live through him. We no longer have to work our way to God but we work to rest in the finished work of Christ. We are no longer turning over a new leaf, we are a whole new tree! Born again, given his Holy Spirit as a deposit, a guarantee of what is to come. We are now counted righteous by faith. Believing in the One who was sent. Praise God.
Become.
Becoming is what happens as we abide with him believing his promises. We become what we believe. Our behaviors are tied to what we are believing. Becoming is a journey and it starts with believing that we are saved by grace through faith. Grace is the embrace of your Creator for every weakness to be overcome with strength. Becoming is transformation through relationship with the One who calls you to abide in him and with him. To talk to him about everything through prayer. His love quiets us before him so that he can speak his thoughts, his Truth, his Word over us. To encourage, teach, correct and guide us. Becoming is not what we do but what God is doing on the inside of us. Christlikeness is what we become. The beautiful creation He made you to be… not do. Serving him and serving others will flow out of this beautiful work He is doing in you.
Some things to consider are:
In what ways are you quieted before the Lord to hear from him and talk to him?
What rhythms of your life allow space to form growth, health and wellbeing for you?
What patterns or thoughts do you need to turn from in order to be filled with new energy and newness of life?
Scripture reading:
Psalm 46
Psalm 139
John 14: 15-31
