Cracked Pots
I am reminded this week of one truth. I am a cracked pot. Yes, I would love to share how I have it all together but most of the time that just isn’t true. Why do we feel the need to show up to places in our lives with this having it all together attitude? It is okay to not be okay. As one who loves to cheer people up and encourage others, I have found this space I like to call holy ground. It is a space where someone bears their thoughts, feelings, and emotions. It is the most beautiful place to connect honestly and openly. A vulnerable space of grace. Listening from a place of understanding and acceptance, not to judge but rather love. To meet each other where we are, not where we wish we could be. In our humanity is where we find we are more similar than different.
Do you know the popular verse John 3:16? For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. Why do we stop there when we quote this verse? The next part is SO GOOD! It says,”For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him”. This is the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He came not to condemn but rather save. That all would enter into his light, and not stay in darkness. What happens when you light a candle in a dark room? It illuminates the space, it brings what was once not seen, seen. It gives light so that what was lost can be found. This is what Christ has done and this is what holy ground is. Bringing light into dark spaces, speaking truth that dispels lies. In that we get to comfort each other with the comfort we have received from his grace. We get to be cracked pots together on this journey of faith knowing that it isn’t the perishable container but the treasure inside. (2 Corinthians 4:7) But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. So if you have a few dents in your fender or can’t find your keys. If the alarm doesn’t go off and your phone is dead. If the week has been long and you feel you don’t belong, be encouraged. The One who came to our world says differently. You belong. You have a Savior from heaven who delights in your belonging to an eternal home with him.
So the thing about clay pots, the more cracks, the more light shines through so join in with all your cracks, you are in good company here.
With you love you!
