What are we?
I feel this at the forefront of my spirit today. What are we? We are human beings of course, but what exactly do we possess in this human state. We live in a body, we possess a soul and we are a spirit. The body we live in is physical, the soul we possess is eternal and the spirit we are is spiritual. These 3 dimensions are what makes us who we are. What gets me absolutely excited is that I am not any of these things on my own. I live, move and have my being in relationship with my Creator and in relationship with each other. I partner with Christ as he lives in my spirit to empower me by his Holy Spirit as I believe. What do I believe? I believe in his finished work on the cross. I believe He is who He says He is. He says, I am the great I am.
This God who is love, sent his Son in love, to die in our place so that we, if we believe, will not perish but have eternal life. That life is the light in all mankind. We are light because he lives on the inside of us. Just as a lantern doesn’t guide you on your path but the light inside it does. So let’s not consider the things that the world sees. The world looks on outward appearances but God searches the heart. He is no respecter of persons. Black, white, female, male, slave or free, it is our heart he longs to hold. We are all equal at the foot of the cross. So what I am then is this, both physical and spiritual. This physical body is subject to the natural affects of this world. But my spirit is attuned and alive to the things that are not of this world but to a whole different world. A world in which we cannot see with our natural eyes but is to be walked out by faith through His Spirit. The Bible says, we are wasting away day by day but our Spirit is renewed day by day. How is my spirit renewed? What I have found to be true is that my spirit is renewed day by day in talking with him through prayer. In spending time in his Word, letting it resonate with my soul which are my thoughts, my will and emotions. He has met me a thousand times in these moments, showing me who he is and guiding me into my next steps. Healing has happened in this space with him and by him. Spiritual growth has happened in this space with him and by him. Character and conduct has been refined with him and by him. What completely amazes me is that because of his grace he does not treat me according to my character or conduct but shows me his way of being and becoming. Transforming me continually until the end of all labor in knowing him, in growing closer to him and his heart. He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6) Rest assured my dear friends what he has done for me he will do for you if you only believe.
With you and love you,
Tracey Hanko
